Inconvenient Facts
Most people are aware of water pollution in our lakes, rivers, and oceans, yet completely miss the fact that our drinking water supply often poses the more serious health hazard.
• EPA studies and scientists on their advisory board also agreed that contaminated drinking water ranks as one of the TOP public health risks in the United States.
• Much of our drinking water in the U.S. contains inorganic minerals such as calcium and magnesium carbonate, toxic chemicals, and water that "passes through" polluted air on its way thru the pipes.
• The EPA says our entire water supply is contaminated. Residue from pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers and industrial waste all come into contact with
our drinking water and also the water our animals drink.
• The use of FLUORIDE in our drinking water is listed as one of the top 25 censored stories of 1998. A former head of toxicology in one of America's foremost dental centers found that fluoride is a powerful CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM TOXIN and that the human brain could be affected, even at low doses.
• According to the National Academy of Sciences, arsenic can cause cancer, heart disease, and perhaps diabetes. Arsenic-tainted water is most common in the west and southwest yet can be found throughout our country.
• New research says that the ingestion of chlorinated water may be a primary cause of cancer and heart diseases.
• One in six people drink water that is contaminated by excessive amounts of lead.
• Microbes in tap water are responsible for at least one in three gastrointestinal illnesses.
• Nearly a million people a year are affected by drinking contaminated water.
• There are over 10,700 bladder and rectal cancers per year (about 30 cancers per day) from drinking ONE glass of contaminated water that looks clear - that's twice the number that die from fires.
• Water can carry typhoid, dysentery, hepatitis, and still look clear in a glass.
• This is not a new problem. For years there have been concerns about arsenic, chlorine, lead, fluoride and parasites in our drinking water. Did you know that your body can absorb 600% to 1,000% more contamination in a solitary 10 minute shower than drinking the same tap water for an entire day?
• So it is not just your drinking water you should be concerned with it, it's all the water you drink and all the water you wash your hands and bath in.
Indoor Air
Over the past several decades, our exposure to indoor air toxins and pollutants is believed to have increased due to a variety of factors, including the construction of more tightly sealed buildings, reduced ventilation rates to save energy, the use of synthetic building materials and furnishings, and the use of chemically formulated personal care products, pesticides and household cleaners.
Most people are aware that outdoor air pollution can be harmful to their health but may do not know that indoor air pollution can also have significant harmful effects.
• Studies of human exposure to air pollutants by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) indicate that indoor levels of many pollutants may be 2-5 times higher than outdoors.
• These levels of indoor air pollutants are of particular concern because it is estimated that most people spend as much as 90% of their time indoors.
• The United States Congress, the EPA and the World Health Organization have all stated "INDOOR AIR POLLUTION is America's most serious environmental problem affecting the health of humans".
• According the Department of Consumer Affairs, CHILDREN and THE ELDERLY are the ones especially who are adversely affected by polluted indoor air. The immune system on the kids is not strong enough to fight off these contaminants and with the older people; age has made their immune systems weaker.
• According to the World Health Organization is that 40 percent of all BUILDINGS pose a 'serious health hazard" due to indoor air pollution.
